How to replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the 2001 Ford Ranger?

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. The TSS sensor is located on the left side of the transmission. Detach the shift cable from the cable bracket, then remove the bracket for access. Disconnect the electrical connector from the TSS sensor. Remove the TSS sensor retaining bolt. If you're planning to reuse the old TSS sensor, remove and discard the old 0-ring. Before installing the new 0-ring, lubricate it with petroleum jelly. Installations the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the TSS sensor bolt securely.
