- Q:How to remove and install the intake manifold in SOHC four cylinder engine on 1998 Ford Ranger?Posted by Jessee Y.A:Finally to reduce the version of the intake manifold, one has to release the fuel system pressure and then grounding the negative terminal on the battery. Fourth, take off the engine Serpentine Belt and then drain the cooling system. Remove the air cleaner and ducts and for the 2.5L engines remove the air conditioning compressor and its mounting bracket but do not disconnect the high pressure refrigerant hoses. Then you should then pull out the upper intake manifold, then the four bolts on base of intake manifold, four bolts on upper manifold, the front two also engage the engine lifting eye. Remove the manifold from the engine complements. For installation, clean the surfaces of the manifold and head and make sure that there are no cracks, surfaces should be clean when intern sheet is installed. Where required, remove gaskets by use of gasket removal solvents while ensuring that the sealing surfaces are not affected. Copper gasket may be used in place of the steel one while applying a light coat of gasket sealant to ensure the new intake manifold gasket remains fixed on the head of the manifold mounting bolts. Place the intake manifold, with the lifting eye on the head, run in the fasteners and tighten in a star pattern to roughly 80 lb-in and then a second sequence to the final torque. The rest of the procedure mirrors the withdrawal in reverse: Last, reconnect the battery and refuel the cooling system and then try to start the engine and look for any signs of leaks that may be present with the coolant, fuel and vacuum.Answered by Ford Parts Specialist Sonny / Dec 02, 2025
