If the pushrods are to be reused, remove them from the engine and place them in a holder to keep them in order. Next, remove the valve lifters and the timing chain cover. Unbolt the camshaft sprocket, ensuring the engine is not turned during this process. Remove the timing chain and sprockets, followed by the bolts securing the camshaft thrust plate to the engine block. Carefully withdraw the camshaft from the engine, taking care not to damage the bearings with the cam lobes. For inspection procedures of the camshaft and lifters, follow the specified guidelines. For installation, lubricate the camshaft journals with engine oil and apply engine assembly lube to the cam lobes. Slide the camshaft into position, ensuring no scraping or nicking of the bearings occurs. Install the camshaft thrust plate and tighten the retaining bolts to the specified torque, then install the timing chain and sprockets. If using original hydraulic valve lifters, install them in their original bores, ensuring they are coated with engine assembly lube. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, and for models with a camshaft position sensor, install it as specified.
