1994 Ford Ranger Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the intake manifold in 4.0L SOHC V6 engine on 1994 Ford Ranger?
A: In this case, to drop the intake manifold, first untwined the cable and take off the negative terminal of the battery then, take off the intake air duct from the air filter housing. Then, if you have a cruise control, unplug the cruise control cable and accelerator cable to the throttle valve, removing clips and moving these cables aside. On models after 2006, disconnect the main connector from the PCM side of the engine and the bolt on the support of the main harness. On the 2011 models, this is possible only after a specific step has been reached, as will be illustrated later in this paper. Remove all vacuum hoses connected to the upper intake manifold and temporarily set aside; note the position of the hoses for reinstallation. Remove electrical connectors such as the IAC valve the TPS solenoid and any other which may hinder the removal of the manifold together with the EGR valve vacuum hose and the EVAP canister purge solenoid vacuum hose. On the 2010 and earlier models the labor procedure involves removal of the exhaust gas recirculation pipe from the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold. This is done by pulling out the ignition wires both from the coil pack and the spark plugs as well as the intake manifold mounting bolts. Raise the intake manifold in the engine bay and, for the redesigned version produced in 2011, take out the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid. Remove vacuum hose connection of the power brake booster to the intake manifold if needed, next remove the spark plug and then the ignition coil wire. Do the previously instructed procedure of disconnecting the knock sensor electrical connector, and unbolt the intake manifold, the PCV fitting bolts become visible by raising the manifold. Last, to disassemble the engine, take out the intake manifold out of it. For installation, it is recommended that all remains of the previous gasket be scraped off and oil and dirt washed with a cloth and solvent. Replace the old O-ring gaskets with new ones but do not use any sealant to fix them in place; they number six. Screw the manifold on the cylinder heads aligning the bolt holes and fit all the bolts lightly so that the manifold does not move forward and backward to avoid vacuum leaks. After that, turn the central bolts to the required torque and gradually move towards the ends. The rest of installation is done in reverse procedure of removal and after the installation is done start the engine and search for any oil, coolant or vacuum leaks.
