1994 Ford Ranger Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the exhaust manifold in 3.0L V6 engine on 1994 Ford Ranger?
A: To remove the exhaust manifold, first disconnect the negative cable at the battery, then raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Spray the exhaust pipe fasteners and exhaust manifold fasteners with rust penetrant, allowing it to soak for about 10 minutes; if there is any resistance during removal, respray the fasteners to prevent breakage. Unbolt the exhaust pipe(s) from the appropriate manifold(s). For the right side, remove the right side spark plugs and secure the wires out of the way, then unbolt and remove the manifold. On the left side, remove the oil dipstick tube bracket nut and either rotate the tube out of the way or remove it completely, then unbolt and remove the manifold. For installation, clean the mating surfaces of the head and manifold, and clean and lightly oil the threads of all fasteners. Install the manifold and snugly tighten all fasteners, starting in the center and working out to the ends, to the specified torque. Reinstall all parts removed for access, applying RTV sealant to the base of the dipstick tube if it was removed, ensuring it is pressed all the way into the block until seated. Connect the exhaust pipe to the manifold(s), lower the vehicle, and reconnect the battery cable. Finally, run the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
