    The valve clearances are checked the same way as on the 2.0L engine, but instead of removable shims, cam followers with heads of differing thicknesses are used to set the desired clearance. The same formula used to calculate shim thickness is used to calculate desired follower head thickness. To change the cam followers, the camshafts have to be removed.
