For the 2.0L four-cylinder models, the first thing you want to do is take off the exhaust manifold after you have disconnected the cable from the negative batter terminal. The CKP sensor can be found at the front end of the engine near the flywheel end of the block and to remove the CKP sensor, you need to first remove the electrical connector, thereafter, loosen the CKP sensor mounting bolt. It is the process of fixing that is opposite to that of removing, with the additional requirement that the mounting bolt must be tightened to the required degree of turn. Upon charging the battery, the PCM requires certain idle and fuel trim for it to perform optimally, and this takes a while. To perform this modification on your V6 models; drain the battery by removing the negative terminal, remove the right front wheel lug nuts, lift the car on a secure jack stand, remove the right front wheel, and lower the right splash shield. CKP sensor can be found near the crankshaft pulley: disconnect the sensor's electrical connector, undo the sensor mounting bolt and, then, remove the sensor. Disassembly is done in a reverse sequence to how it is done, and the mounting bolt is tightened to the required torque, while the PCM requires an idle and fuel trim learning process after detachment and reconnection of the battery. For the 2.3L four-cylinder engine, turn off the ignition by removing the negative terminal of the battery, find the CKP sensor which is located near the crankshaft pulley and remove the electrical connection from the sensor. The mounting bolts of the CKP sensor should be loosened and at TDC set the engine, with the help of a special timing pin and crankshaft pulley alignment tool. Bolt the new CKP sensor to the block with the mounting bolts but do not firmly fasten them, align the sensor using the alignment tool, and then tighten a proper amount. Also, it should be pointed out that whenever the CKP sensor is removed in the process of the repair it should be replaced with a new one since the required alignment tool is supplied only with a new sensor.
