The transmission must be removed and engine supported properly to take out and evaluate clutch components. Toward the flywheel, on the pressure plate, locating marks should be looked for. Including clutch disc and pressure plate, undo the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts. Inspect all clutch parts including pilot bearing and flywheel. If needed, replace the release bearing as well as the clutch disc. Additionally, inspect the surfaces of the pressure plate and fingers of the diaphragm spring. Finally, the clutch disc should be aligned with the flywheel and its bolts tightened to assemble it back together then reinstall the transmission then lower vehicle.

Access to clutch components is obtained by removing the transmission while the engine is left in place. In case of an engine overhaul, it is advisable to inspect and repair or replace the clutch. It is good practice to replace both the engine and transmission's clutch components during removal. The transmission, however, must be removed from the vehicle since the engine has to be supported down on a frame. A clutch alignment tool is used for supporting the clutch disc that is being lifted out of its position. Then check the flywheel and pressure plate for alignment marks and scribe them if necessary. After that, remove the pressure plate in association with a clutch disc. The flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch disc lining and pressure plate are to be checked for any signs of wear or damage. Also, ensure release bearing condition and if necessary replace it with one in good condition. Clean up the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces prior to installation. Complete crisscrossing of positioning bolts tightens both the clutch disc and pressure plate accordingly at once placing them correctly onto a flywheel face.

Align the pressure plate and disc, install the retaining bolts, and tighten them to 15-25 ft. lbs. (21-35 Nm) in the proper sequence. Remove the clutch disc pilot tool.

Remove the flywheel.Position the pressure plate on the flywheel and place both in a hydraulic press.Depress the clutch diaphragm fingers until the adjusting ring moves freely.Move the adjusting ring counterclockwise with a screwdriver until the tension springs are compressed.Release pressure on the diaphragm fingers while holding the adjusting ring in place.Remove the flywheel and pressure plate from the press.

Dispose of the contaminated rags and cleaner in a covered, marked container.
