Inspect all clutch components, including the flywheel for defects, and check the pilot bearing. Ensure the clutch disc has adequate lining thickness, lacks loose rivets, and is free of damage. It's recommended to replace the release bearing along with the clutch disc.

When removing clutch components, you should inspect the following components. The machined surfaces and diaphragm spring fingers of the pressure plate should be inspected for excessive wear or damage, and the surface should be checked for score marks, cracks, and signs of overheating.

Remove the transmission, and while it's out, support the engine properly either using an engine hoist from above or a jack with a piece of wood between it and the oil pan. Care should be taken not to distort the oil pan to prevent oil starvation.
