    Q:
How to remove and install the ignition lock cylinder on Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the terminal end of the battery's negative wire, and in cars with air bags, the positive battery cable as well. Slide the key into the lock cylinder and rotate it to an anti-clockwise position, which corresponds to Run. Utilize a small scribe or punch and then push down on the retaining pin through the hole of the lower steering column cover and when doing so, apply a pulling force on the lock cylinder. If there is no hole in the lower steering column cover, then the cover has to be taken off. When installing the lock cylinder, one must press the retaining pin in and fit the lock cylinder over the steering column such that it fits properly and the retaining pin is engaged then turn the key to the lock position. As a last test, check the lock cylinder in each key position it should work properly.

    Q:
How to replace the ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch on the Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
The ignition switch of 1993 and 1994 models is on top of the steering column and held in place by two nuts while the ignition switch of 1995 and other models is fixed on the underside of the steering by two screws. Start with the negative terminal of the battery and if one is available, the positive also, but remove the air bags first. The columns, shrouds and the electrical connector of the ignition switch must be disconnected. As for 1993 and 1994 models, the key in the ignition Lock position, the switch mounting nuts, and then the switch is removed from the studs and disconnected from the actuator rod. Installation, again is a process contrary to the removal; make certain the new switch is locked; snap it into the actuator rod; fix its position in relation to the studs, and tighten the nuts adequately as you test it across its key positions. For model year 1995 and newer, after disconnecting the appropriate battery cables, remove the steering column cover and reinforcement, and if required the multi-function switch and electrical connector for clearance. Pull the clips and take off the Ignition Lock Cylinder, 3 screws from the switch, unbend the connector wires. Installation is done in the reverse manner whereby the ignition key and the switch is placed in the Run positions adjusting the switch pin appropriately to the slot of on the steering column and then tighten the screws before testing the operation in all key positions. For the purpose of Ignition Lock Cylinder replacement, a 1995 or later model requires the removal of the negative cable of the battery and the positive cable. Pull out the steering wheel, the lower cover and the shrouds and rotate the steering lock in the On or Run position depending on its model. Using a 1/8-inch diameter wire or a small screwdriver remove the worship in the back of the actuator pin to find the cylinder. Removal on the other hand is the reverse of installation.
