When inspecting the trailing arm pivot bushing, look for signs of deterioration. If it needs replacement, take the trailing arm to an automotive machine shop to have the bushing replaced.

To remove the trailing arm, you should start by removing the coil spring, brake shoe assembly, brake hose and brake line brackets, parking brake cable brackets, and ABS wheel speed sensor if equipped. Then, remove the hub and bearing assembly. Separate the brake backing plate from the trailing arm and suspend it with a piece of wire. Finally, mark the relationship of the toe adjusting cam to the trailing arm mounting bracket, unscrew the pivot bolt, and separate the trailing arm from the vehicle.
