To replace the CKP sensor, first disconnect the negative battery terminal. Raise the front of the vehicle and remove the right front wheel. Remove the necessary access panels or undercovers. Disconnect the electrical connector from the CKP sensor, remove the mounting bolt, and lift the sensor. For 2.0L, 2.3L, and 2.5L engines, set the No. 1 cylinder at TDC before removing the sensor. For installation, slide the sensor under the crankshaft pulley and install the mounting bolt. For 3.0L models, remove the sensor O-ring. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Replacing the CKP sensor might set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (OTC). If it does, and you have a generic scan tool that can clear codes, erase the code and check if it reappears. If it does, drive the vehicle to a dealer service department to perform a Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure with a factory scan tool. Begin by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. For four-cylinder models and 3.0L V6 models (2007 and earlier), loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the right front wheel and the inner fender splash shield, then remove the engine under-cover. For four-cylinder models, position the no. 1 cylinder at Top Dead Center (TDC), then disconnect the electrical connector from the CKP sensor. Unscrew the CKP sensor mounting bolts and remove the sensor. If installing a new CKP sensor, use the special alignment jig that comes with it to align the sensor according to the manufacturer's instructions, then tighten the bolts and remove the jig. If reinstalling the old CKP sensor, align it using the timing plate's teeth as a guide, then tighten the bolts. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. For 3.0L V6 engines, disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector, unscrew the mounting bolt, and remove the sensor, inspecting the O-ring for damage and lubricating it with oil before installation. For 3.5L engines, remove the front cylinder bank catalytic converter if applicable, then remove the heat shield and the rubber grommet cover to access the CKP sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the mounting bolt, and inspect the O-ring before lubricating it and reinstalling the sensor, ensuring to tighten the mounting bolt to the specified torque.

Replacing the CKP sensor may trigger a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If this occurs and you have a generic scan tool that can clear codes, erase the code and check if it reappears. If it does, take the vehicle to a dealer service department to perform a Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure with a factory scan tool. On all models, remove the engine under-cover. For four-cylinder models, put the No. 1 cylinder at Top Dead Center (TDC). Disconnect the electrical connector from the CKP sensor and unscrew the mounting bolts to remove the sensor. For installation, install the CKP sensor without tightening the mounting bolts. If using a new CKP sensor, align it with the special alignment jig provided and tighten the bolts securely before removing the jig. If using the old CKP sensor, align it with the timing plate by counting 20 teeth counterclockwise from the blank spot and drawing a straight line from the center of the 20th tooth through the center of the crankshaft pulley. Position the centerline of the CKP sensor with the line and tighten the bolts securely. Installation is the reverse of removal. For V6 models, the CKP sensor is located on the left front side of the engine block near the transaxle. For 2.7L models, remove the right-hand air cleaner outlet and the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) intake pipe. For 3.5L and 3.7L models, remove the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors and the catalyst for the front cylinder head. Remove the CKP sensor heat shield mounting bolt and nut, as well as the rubber grommet cover. Disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector and remove the mounting bolt to take out the sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal.

For V6 models, the CKP sensor is located on the left front side of the engine block near the transaxle. For 2.7L models, remove the right-hand air cleaner outlet and the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) intake pipe. For 3.5L and 3.7L models, remove the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors and the catalyst for the front cylinder head. Remove the CKP sensor heat shield mounting bolt and nut, as well as the rubber grommet cover.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the air conditioning compressor clutch and unbolt the air conditioning compressor, setting it aside to provide access to the CKP sensor.
