    Q:
How to access and replace the fuel pump module on Ford Fusion? Posted by Customer
    A:
The fuel pump module which comprises the fuel pump, fuel level sending unit, fuel filter, and, in case of mechanical returnless pump, fuel pressure regulator is located at fuel tank and requires some disconnection and detachment of fuel tank on 2013 and later models. On electronic returnless pumps, fuel pressure is regulated by the Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM) and the parts inside the module cannot be repaired individually. The all-wheel drive models are equipped with two fuel level sensors, one of which is mounted on the body panel below the driver's side of fuel tank and another one on the same place from the passenger's side. First of all, release the fuel system pressure and then, Ignition OFF, disconnect the negative battery terminal. Second, evacuate the rear seat cushion and the screws at the back that hold the fuel pump access cover. Pull off the electrical connector and the fuel supply line quick-connect fitting at the fuel pump module. Insert a hammer and brass punch and twist it in anti-clockwise direction, you may now remove fuel pump module from the fuel tank with caution while covering the fuel level sensor float arm. Check up the O-ring element, in case it is worn, it should be replaced and in case of installing the element, the process is reversed. For automobiles that have an electronic returnless fuel system, the FPCM situated in the left rear corner of the boot surveys the fuel pump module speed, output and the pressure. The FPCM is connected to the left rear trunk carpet trim, the electrical connector should be disconnected together with the other additional pin-type retainers to free and pull out the FPCM and in reassembling the components simply reverse the process of this removal.
