How to remove and install the crankshaft pulley on Ford Expedition? Posted by Customer
    A:
To undo the cooling fan and the cooling shroud, first you need to disconnect the drive belt for the accessories, and for 2006 and the later models of the Expedition/Navigator, you also remove the drive belt splash shield. Next, remove the flywheel inspection cover and, with help, jam a large screwdriver into the teeth of the starter ring gear so the crankshaft can't turn. Nut the big central bolt of the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise by using a breaker bar combined with a socket where the crankshaft is held by another person. Remove the crankshaft pulley with a proper puller that screws onto the crankshaft pulley flange; the Woodruff key must remain in the crankshaft keyway during removal. General precaution to be taken should be to ensure that the puller that is used does not cling on the outer flank of the crankshaft pulley. In fitting, apply moly-base grease or clean engine oil on the contact areas of oil seal and at the hub of the crankshaft pulley, before which a small quantity of RTV sealant should be applied at front portion of the key of crankshaft pulley. Put on the crankshaft pulley so that the keyway fits into the Woodruff key, and in case the bolt head is small and could not reach the keyway, use a large washer and bolt to pull the pulley up and tighten the bolt 1/4 turn past the correct torque. The remaining steps, are logically converses of the order of removal. Last of all, check the level of the new oil, switch on the engine for some time and check for any sign of leakage.

    Q:
How to remove and install the crankshaft pulley and front crankshaft seal in V8 engine on Ford F-150? Posted by Customer
    A:
To take out the crankshaft pulley, let pull out the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and set down that of the drive-belt. For 2010 and earlier models raise the vehicle properly on jackstands and take out the engine cooling fan and shroud assembly. Take off the crankshaft pulley center bolt with the socket and breaker bar; when doing this, make sure that the pulley is locked in position with a strap or the chain wrench and place a shop rag or a piece of drivebelt material around the crankshaft pulley. If there are holes provided on the pulley to thread in, then a bolt type puller should be used but where there are no holes, then the pulley should be pulled off using a three jawed puller. There is always the need for an adapter between the puller bolt and the crankshaft so as not to damage them. Third, employ a seal puller to remove the crankshaft front oil seal without scratching the crankshaft or damage the bore. Clean the crossland bore and check for nicks or gouges and also the hub zone for signs of abnormal wearing. As for the installation, there is a requirement of a new bolt for the 5.0L and 6.2L engines to reinstall the crankshaft pulley. Slather the external lip of the new seal with clean engine oil before forcing it into place with the use of a seal driver or a socket that is a little smaller than the seal while the 'open-end' must be facing the engine. Any contact surface of the crankshaft pulley hub with the oil seal must be smeared with multi-purpose grease or clean engine oil and the front end of the keyway in the crankshaft pulley must be treated with RTV sealant before assembling. Withdraw the crankshaft pulley with an especial installation tool without the need for a hammer and fasten the center bolt and torque it to the recommended value. The remaining steps are-again-the reverse order of removal steps.

    Q:
How to replace the front crankshaft seal and Crankshaft Pulley in 3.5L and 3.7L V6 engine on Ford F-150? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and remove the drive belt. For 3.5L engines, take off the air filter housing pipe and the turbocharger pipes. Secure the crankshaft from rotating with a strap or chain wrench, using a rag or old drive belt around the pulley for protection. Remove the bolt from the front of the crankshaft, then use a three-jaw puller to detach the crankshaft pulley. Clean the crankshaft nose and the seal contact surface on the pulley with ATF remover, leaving the Woodruff key in place in the crankshaft keyway. Carefully remove the seal from the timing chain cover with a screwdriver or seal removal tool, taking care not to damage the cover or scratch the wall of the seal bore. If the engine has high mileage, apply penetrating oil to the seal-to-cover joint and let it soak before removal. Check the seal bore and crankshaft, as well as the seal contact surface on the pulley for nicks and burrs. Position the new seal in the bore with the open end facing inward, applying a film of engine oil to the outer edge for easier installation. Drive the seal into the bore with a seal driver or a large socket and hammer until fully seated, using a socket that matches the outside diameter of the seal. Apply clean engine oil to the seal contact surface of the crankshaft pulley and coat the keyway with a thin layer of RTV sealant. Install the pulley on the end of the crankshaft, ensuring the keyway in the pulley bore aligns with the Woodruff key. If the pulley cannot be seated by hand, tap it into place with a soft-face hammer or use a large washer over the bolt to press it into position, then tighten the bolt in steps to the specified torque. Reinstall the remaining parts that were removed for access to the seal, start the engine, and check for leaks. If replacing the seal with the engine front cover removed, take off the cover and use a punch or screwdriver and hammer to drive the seal out from the back side, supporting the cover with blocks of wood to avoid distortion or scratching. Clean the bore to remove any old seal material and corrosion, then position the new seal in the bore with the open end facing inward, applying oil to the outer edge for easier installation. Drive the seal into the bore until fully seated, then reinstall the engine front cover and crankshaft pulley, starting the engine afterward to check for leaks.
