Q:
How do I remove the airbag module and steering wheel? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the airbag module and steering wheel, start by turning off the ignition and disconnecting the battery. For 2007 and earlier models, remove the access panel under the steering wheel and pry each retaining spring to detach the airbag module. For 2008 through 2012 models, remove the knee bolster trim panel and steering column covers, then disengage the upper and lower airbag module retaining clips. For 2013 and later models, use a screwdriver or Allen wrench to release the airbag module clips on both sides of the steering wheel. Disconnect the airbag module electrical connectors and set it aside. Remove the steering wheel bolt and disconnect the electrical connector(s), then try rocking the wheel or use a puller to remove it from the shaft. Tape the clockspring to prevent rotation. If necessary, remove the airbag clockspring by removing the steering column covers, disconnecting the electrical connectors, and removing the screws. To install, if the clockspring was removed, align the pins on the back of the clockspring with the holes in the steering wheel rotation sensor and tighten the screws. Center the clockspring according to the instructions for each model year. Install the steering column covers and remove the anti-rotation pin if a new clockspring was installed. Finally, align the match marks and tighten the steering wheel bolt. Connect the airbag module electrical connectors, ensuring they fit correctly with the safety tabs up, and push the module down until the retaining clips lock.
