Q:
How to remove and install a coolant expansion tank on Ford Taurus? Posted by Customer
A:
Release pressure from the cooling system by slowly turning the coolant reservoir cap one half turn counterclockwise. Remove the coolant reservoir cap. Using suitable hose clamp pliers, clamp the lower coolant hose connected to the coolant reservoir. Remove the coolant in the coolant reservoir using a suitable suction device. If the coolant is relatively new and in good condition, save and reuse it. Disconnect the upper coolant hose and lower coolant hoses from the coolant reservoir and move them aside. If equipped, detach the pin-type retainer from the coolant reservoir. On some models, the power steering fluid reservoir will need to be separated from the coolant reservoir. Remove the coolant reservoir mounting bolts. Position the coolant reservoir aside to access the electrical connector. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the coolant reservoir from the vehicle. Clean out the tank with soapy water and a brush to remove any deposits inside. Inspect the coolant reservoir carefully for cracks. If you find a crack, replace the coolant reservoir. Installation: Installation is the reverse of removal.
