To remove the coil spring from the strut assembly, a spring compressor should be installed on the spring, compressing it enough to relieve pressure from the upper bearing assembly. The compressed spring should then be carefully lifted from the assembly and set aside.

To raise the vehicle, place it on the ground and at normal ride height, then mark the shock absorbers in relation to the dust sleeve. Next, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands placed under the frame, avoiding support under the differential housing or axle.

Guide the assembly into the fenderwell and insert the strut mount studs through the holes in the strut tower.

If you suspect worn or weak shock absorbers, repeat the check at each of the three remaining corners of the vehicle. Additionally, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands to inspect the shock absorbers for evidence of fluid leakage. Some light film of fluid is generally not a cause for concern, but if significant leakage is noticed, it's advisable to replace the shocks as a set. Ensure that the leakage is from the shocks and not another source. Check the shocks to make sure they are securely mounted and undamaged. Also, inspect the upper mounts for damage and wear.
