Inspect the strut body for damage and the coil spring and spring seat for any issues.

If you suspect worn or weak shock absorbers, repeat the check at each of the three remaining corners of the vehicle. Additionally, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands to inspect the shock absorbers for evidence of fluid leakage. Some light film of fluid is generally not a cause for concern, but if significant leakage is noticed, it's advisable to replace the shocks as a set. Ensure that the leakage is from the shocks and not another source. Check the shocks to make sure they are securely mounted and undamaged. Also, inspect the upper mounts for damage and wear.

With the mounting fasteners in place, carefully raise the axle so that the mark on the shock lines up with the dust sleeve. Tighten the mounting fasteners to the torque specified in the vehicle's specifications.

To remove the coil spring from the strut assembly, a spring compressor should be installed on the spring, compressing it enough to relieve pressure from the upper bearing assembly. The compressed spring should then be carefully lifted from the assembly and set aside.
