    Q:
What are some tips for servicing an oxygen sensor on Ford Fusion? Posted by Customer
    A:
Because an oxygen sensor is installed in the exhaust manifold or pipe, it may be difficult to loosen when the engine is cold. To avoid damaging the sensor or its mounting threads, start and run the engine for a minute or two before attempting to remove it. When servicing an oxygen sensor, be careful not to damage or remove the pigtail or electrical connector, as this will render the sensor useless. Keep grease, dirt, and other contaminants away from the electrical connector and the louvered end of the sensor, and do not use cleaning solvents on the sensor. Oxygen sensors are delicate, so handle them with care and avoid dropping them. Make sure the silicone boot on the sensor is installed correctly to prevent melting and ensure proper operation. To replace the upstream oxygen sensor, locate it and disconnect the electrical connector, then unscrew the sensor using a wrench or oxygen sensor socket. Apply anti-seize compound to the threads if reusing the old sensor. For the downstream oxygen sensor, locate it and disconnect the electrical connector, then unscrew the sensor using a wrench or oxygen sensor socket. Apply anti-seize compound to the threads if reusing the old sensor.
