Q:
How to remove the knock sensors on Ford Fusion? Posted by Customer
A:
The knock sensors on four cylinder models are located on the front side of the block, behind the intake manifold. The 1.5L, 1.6L, and 2.0L engines have two knock sensors. To remove them, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, remove the intake manifold, disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor, remove the knock sensor bolt, and then remove the knock sensor. For 3.0L and 3.5L V6 models, the process is slightly different. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, raise the vehicle and remove the engine compartment undercover. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector, remove the knock sensor retaining bolt, and then remove the knock sensor. For 2.7L V6 models, there are two knock sensors located in the valley between the cylinder banks. They must be replaced as a pair. To replace them, relieve the fuel system pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, drain the cooling system, remove the water pump and coolant outlet connector, remove the fuel rails, disconnect the knock sensor harness electrical connector, remove the bolts, and detach the sensors from the cylinder heads. Install the new sensors and then reverse the removal process.
