    Q:
What is the purpose of the coolant temperature indicator system and the CHT and ECT sensors in Ford Fusion? Posted by Customer
    A:
Four-cylinder engines and 3.SL V6 engines are equipped with a cylinder head temperature sensor instead of a coolant temperature sensor. 2.7L V6 models use both a Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) sensor and an Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. The coolant temperature indicator system consists of a warning light or a temperature gauge on the dash and a coolant temperature sending unit mounted on the engine. On the models covered, the Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) sensor or Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is an information sensor for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and also functions as the coolant temperature sending unit for the temperature gauge. Information on the CHT and ECT sensors can be found in 6.

    Q:
What is the caution regarding the ECT sensor and how should it be installed on Ford Fusion? Posted by Customer
    A:
The ECT sensor is not to be reused. Install only a NEW ECT sensor once it is removed. The ECT sensor is used on all 1.5L and 1.6L four-cylinder models, 2006 through 2009 3.0L V6 models, and 2.7L V6 models. To remove the ECT sensor on 1.5L and 1.6L models, lift the engine cover and remove the expansion tank and air filter housing outlet duct. Locate the ECT sensor on the thermostat housing, disconnect the electrical connector, remove the retaining clip, and pull out the sensor. For 2006 through 2009 3.0L V6 models, disconnect the electrical connector, pull out the locking tab, rotate the sensor counterclockwise, and remove it from the coolant passage. Inspect the sensor O-ring and replace if necessary. To install, insert the new ECT sensor into the coolant passage and turn it clockwise until the locking tab snaps into place. For 2.7L V6 models, remove the intake manifold, disconnect the electrical connector, unscrew the ECT sensor, and discard it. Install the new ECT sensor and tighten it. Refill the cooling system.
