Q:
How to remove and install a radiator on Ford Taurus? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain the cooling system if the coolant is relatively new and in good condition, save it and reuse it. Detach the radiator hose from the bottom of the radiator. Remove the cooling fan/shroud assembly from the radiator. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses and move them aside. Remove the front bumper cover. Note: This is not required for all models, but will aid in the radiator removal procedure. Remove the front grille and grille shutter assembly (if equipped). Remove the upper radiator cover (if equipped). On 2007 and earlier 3.5L V6 engines, remove air filter housing assembly. On 2007 and earlier 3.5L V6 engines, remove the horn assembly. On 2007 and earlier 3.5L V6 models, remove the transaxle cooler bracket bolts. Lift the transaxle cooler from the retainers and position it aside. On 2008 and later models, detach the lower coolant expansion tank hose from the radiator. On 2008 and later models, detach the transaxle cooler hose from the radiator (if equipped). Remove the radiator support bracket mounting bolts. Position the radiator towards the front of the vehicle. On some models, the radiator support brackets are held by tabs, disengage the tabs by lifting them up, then position the radiator towards the engine. Remove the radiator air dams from each side of the vehicle. Remove the air conditioning condenser mounting bolts and position the air conditioning condenser aside. Remove the radiator from the vehicle. Remove bugs and dirt from the radiator with compressed air and a soft brush. Don't Bend the cooling fins. Inspect the radiator for leaks and damage. If it needs repair, have a radiator shop or a dealer service department do the work. Inspect the rubber insulators in the lower radiator support for cracks and deterioration. Make sure that they're free of dirt and gravel. When installing the radiator, make sure that it's correctly seated on the insulators. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Fill the cooling system with the correct mixture of antifreeze and water. Start the engine and check for leaks. Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature, indicated by the upper radiator hose becoming hot. Check the coolant level and add more if required. Check and add automatic transmission fluid as needed.
