Q:
How do you remove the radiator on Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the radiator, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable and removing the air cleaner duct. Drain the cooling system and loosen the hose clamps to detach the radiator hoses from the fittings, ensuring not to distort them. Disconnect the reservoir hose from the radiator filler neck. If applicable, remove the fan shroud by taking out the mounting screws and sliding it toward the engine. For automatic transmission-equipped vehicles, use a backup wrench to disconnect the transmission cooler lines from the radiator, plugging the lines to prevent spillage. Remove the radiator mounting bolts and detach any clips holding the condenser to the radiator on 5.0L V8 models. Carefully lift the radiator out of its lower mounting pads, being cautious not to spill coolant or damage the vehicle. Inspect the removed radiator for leaks or damage, and if repairs are necessary, consult a radiator shop or dealer service department. For installation, check the radiator mounts, ensuring they are free of debris, and reinstall the radiator following the reverse of the removal procedure. After installation, fill the cooling system, start the engine to check for leaks, and monitor the upper radiator hose for temperature indication. For automatic transmission-equipped vehicles, check and add transmission fluid as needed.
