    Q:
How to check and replace Clutch Disc,Pressure Plate,Release Bearing on Ford Explorer? Posted by Customer
    A:
Access to clutch components is obtained by removing the transmission while the engine is left in place. In case of an engine overhaul, it is advisable to inspect and repair or replace the clutch. It is good practice to replace both the engine and transmission's clutch components during removal. The transmission, however, must be removed from the vehicle since the engine has to be supported down on a frame. A clutch alignment tool is used for supporting the clutch disc that is being lifted out of its position. Then check the flywheel and pressure plate for alignment marks and scribe them if necessary. After that, remove the pressure plate in association with a clutch disc. The flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch disc lining and pressure plate are to be checked for any signs of wear or damage. Also, ensure release bearing condition and if necessary replace it with one in good condition. Clean up the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces prior to installation. Complete crisscrossing of positioning bolts tightens both the clutch disc and pressure plate accordingly at once placing them correctly onto a flywheel face.

    Q:
How to remove Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate on Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
The clutch parts are best reached by transmitting the car and the 4WDs contain the shift case from the car but the engine remains in the vehicle. It is recommended that if the engine is being removed to be overhauled, the clutch should be inspected for wear and the worn parts replaced. Due to the fact that clutch components are not expensive a compared to the time and money that one may have spent to get to the engine or transmission, replacement is advised each time unless the components are new or are in very good condition. Start by disconnecting the transmission and supporting the engine; it is best to use an engine hoist, however, using a jack with a wood plank under it should also suffice. During removal, screw a clutch alignment tool in the clutch disc hub to give the clutch disc support. Ensure that there are index marks on the flywheel and the pressure plate, in case they are missing provide your own marks which will guide you when reassembling the equipment. Tighten the pressure plate to flywheel bolts in a crosswise manner, which will release the spring pressure prior to removing the; pressure plate and clutch disc retaining bolts, pressure plate and clutch disc. Check all parts for their state, flywheel for crack and grooves, pilot bearing, linings of clutch disc, release bearing has to be replaced together with the clutch disc. It is recommended to make a thorough cleaning of the machined surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate before they are fitted freely of oil or grease. Using an alignment tool install the clutch disc and pressure plate to the flywheel, making sure of the correct position of the units. For the models starting from 1997, if required, fine-tune the pressure plate until the bolts can just be tightened by the fingers and the clutch disc brought to its centered position. Last, there is the clutch release bearing if was removed and after that the transmission and all the parts which was removed should be assembled and all bolts/torques should be tightened in according to the manual.
