    Q:
How do you diagnose the blower motor and resistor assembly for the 1986 Mercury Capri? Posted by Customer
    A:
To diagnose the blower motor and resistor assembly on 1982 and later models, start by checking the fuse, connections, and ensuring a fully charged battery. Start the engine and connect a voltmeter to the blower motor connector. Test the blower switch through each position, comparing the voltage readings with the specified values. If there is voltage but the blower motor isn't functioning or the readings are higher than specified, the motor may be faulty. Turn off the engine, move the function control lever to the Heat position, disconnect the blower motor resistor's electrical connector, and connect a jumper wire between the lower terminal of the resistor and the black wire's terminal. Connect an ammeter between the top terminal of the resistor and the orange wire's terminal. Start the engine and test the blower switch through each position, noting the ammeter reading and comparing it to the specified values. If the readings are too high and all connections are good, the blower motor is likely faulty. If the readings are off in only one or two switch positions, the resistor assembly may be faulty.
