Q:
How to disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the blower motor in a Ford Thunderbird? Posted by Customer
A:
To disconnect the negative battery cable, lower the glove compartment door by squeezing the sides together and disengaging the tabs. Then, working through the glove compartment opening, unplug the blower motor by depressing the locking tabs and pulling the connector off. Unscrew the blower motor from the housing and pull the motor and mounting plate out as a unit. If the motor is being replaced, transfer the fan to the new motor by removing the clip and pulling the fan off the shaft. Finally, reconnect the battery cable, check the operation of the blower, and reset the glove compartment door.

Q:
How to remove the blower motor without air conditioning for 1985 and 1986 Mercury Capri? Posted by Customer
A:
Without air conditioning, the process of removing the blower motor involves removing the glovebox, unscrewing the lower duct from the upper duct and heater case, removing the hub clamp spring and pulling off the blower wheel, and finally removing the blower motor itself by unscrewing its mounting screws, disconnecting the wiring connector, and pulling it out. The installation process is simply the reverse of removal, with the hub clamp spring ends positioned 90-degrees from the flat on the motor shaft. For models with air conditioning, the replacement of the blower motor is the same as for earlier models with air conditioning.

Q:
How to remove and install the blower motor and assembly in Mercury Capri with and without air conditioning for 1979 through 1984 Mercury Capri? Posted by Customer
A:
For models without air conditioning, start by removing the right register duct by loosening one screw and detaching it from the mounting bracket. Proceed to remove the ventilator control assembly by taking out two screws and detaching it from the lower edge of the instrument panel. Remove the glovebox liner and then take out the ventilator grille by removing its mounting pins. Remove the right register duct and the four screws securing the ventilator assembly (access the screws through specific openings as indicated). Detach the ventilator assembly and remove the blower wheel by taking off the hub clamp spring and pulling it off its shaft. Remove the blower motor by unscrewing its mounting screws, disconnecting the wiring connector, and pulling it out. To install, reverse the removal steps and position the hub clamp spring correctly. For models with air conditioning, start by removing the glovebox liner and disconnecting the vacuum hose from the outside-recirc door vacuum motor. Remove the bolt securing the lower right side of the instrument panel to the cowl and the trim panel from the right side of the passenger footwell. Remove screws and nuts that secure the blower housing and air inlet duct assembly from the evaporator case. Disconnect the blower motor wiring and remove the blower mounting plate. Reinstall the blower wheel onto the shaft if removed, secure it with a spring clamp, and install the blower motor. Tape the blower motor wiring to the air inlet duct and place the assembly back onto the evaporator case. Connect the vacuum hose to the vacuum motor, then install the glovebox liner and secure the instrument panel and trim panel.

Q:
How to troubleshoot blower motor issues in Mercury Capri? Posted by Customer
A:
For 1979 through 1981 models, begin by ensuring the battery is fully charged and the fuse is intact, and check the blower motor and resistor assembly connections for tightness and corrosion. Connect a voltmeter's positive lead to the blower motor electrical connector's orange/black wire and the negative lead to a good ground on the vehicle frame. Place the temperature control lever in the middle of its travel and the heater function control lever in the Heat position. Turn the ignition key to the On position and test the blower switch through each position, noting voltage readings and comparing them to the specified values. If the readings are correct but the blower motor isn't working correctly, there might be a fault in the motor or wiring. If there are no voltage readings and all connections and the fuse are fine, the issue might be in the wiring. For 1982 and later models, check the fuse, connections, and ensure a fully charged battery. Start the engine, connect a voltmeter to the blower motor connector, and test the blower switch through each position, comparing the voltage readings with the specified values. If there is voltage but the blower motor isn't functioning or the readings are higher than specified, the motor may be faulty. Turn off the engine, move the function control lever to the Heat position, disconnect the blower motor resistor's electrical connector, and connect a jumper wire between the lower terminal of the resistor and the black wire's terminal. Connect an ammeter between the top terminal of the resistor and the orange wire's terminal. Start the engine and test the blower switch through each position, noting the ammeter reading and comparing it to the specified values. If the readings are too high and all connections are good, the blower motor is likely faulty. If the readings are off in only one or two switch positions, the resistor assembly may be faulty.

Q:
How do you remove and replace the blower motor on 1987 and later Mercury Capri? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove and replace the blower motor, start by opening the glovebox door and detaching its retaining tabs from the instrument panel. Then, disconnect the blower motor cooling hose and electrical connector. Remove the four mounting screws and take out the motor. If needed, separate the blower wheel from the motor by removing the spring clamp or push nut. Secure the blower wheel with a new spring clamp or push nut if it was removed. Ensure both ends of the cooling hose are securely attached. Connect the electrical connector and reposition the blower motor, securing it with the mounting screws. Finally, reinstall the glovebox.
