To remove the exhaust manifold, first disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. If necessary, remove the air cleaner and duct assembly for better access. Next, remove the EGR tube fitting at the exhaust manifold and loosen it at the EGR tube. Disconnect the oxygen sensor wiring harness connector and, if equipped, remove the bolt attaching the heater hoses to the valve cover. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the two bolts attaching the exhaust pipe to the manifold. After that, remove the eight exhaust manifold mounting bolts and detach the manifold from the engine. Clean the manifold and cylinder head mounting surfaces with a gasket scraper, followed by wiping them with a cloth saturated with lacquer thinner or acetone, and clean the bolt threads with a wire brush. For installation, use a new gasket to install the manifold and the eight bolts attaching it to the cylinder head, tightening the bolts from the center outwards to the specified torque. Install the bolts attaching the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold, position the heater hoses on the valve cover, reconnect the oxygen sensor wire, and install the EGR line at the exhaust manifold. Finally, reinstall the air cleaner and duct assembly, and reconnect the battery cable.
