Q:
How do you remove the tie-rod? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the tie-rod, start by loosening the front wheel lug nuts and raising the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the front wheel and use locking pliers or a wrench to hold the tie-rod while loosening the jam nut. This will allow you to mark the position of the tie-rod end in relation to the threads. Next, remove the nut on the tie-rod end stud and disconnect the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm. If the ballstud sticks in the arm, use a puller to separate it. Finally, unscrew the tie-rod end from the tie-rod. To install the tie-rod, thread the tie-rod end back onto the marked position and insert the stud into the steering knuckle arm. Install the nut on the stud and tighten it to the specified torque. Securely tighten the jam nut. Install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque. Finally, have the wheel alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
