Q:
How to remove and install A/C Accumulator,A/C Compressor,Evaporator and A/C Condenser of an air conditioning system in a Ford Focus? Posted by Customer
A:
The condenser should be discharged and recovered at a service department or repair facility. Disconnect the negative battery cable and raise the front of the vehicle. Remove the radiator undershield and unbolt the refrigerant lines from the condenser. Remove the bolts from the radiator support bracket and disengage the condenser upper mountings. Unclip the condenser from the radiator and remove it. For 2008 and later models, detach the wiring harness and remove the lower radiator cross member. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the condenser and support the cooling module. Remove the mounting bolts from the condenser and remove it. The evaporator is mounted inside the heater housing and requires removal of the instrument panel. Unbolt the heater unit assembly from the firewall to remove the evaporator. The compressor should be discharged and recovered at a service department or repair facility. Remove the undershield and loosen the auxiliary drivebell. Unscrew the clamping bolt to disconnect the refrigerant lines from the compressor. For 2008 and later models, remove the engine cooling fan or lower radiator air deflector. Remove the drivebelt shield and the drivebelt. Detach the power steering line and the air conditioning discharge line from the compressor. Unbolt the compressor from the cylinder block and unplug its electrical connector. The accumulator/drier should be discharged at a service department or repair facility. Disconnect the negative battery cable and using a plastic clamp-type tool, disconnect the refrigerant line next to the accumulator/drier from the compressor. Raise the front of the vehicle and remove the right-hand front wheel. Unscrew the inner fender well liner and disconnect the refrigerant line from the accumulator/drier. Unbolt the accumulator/drier from the front suspension sub frame and remove it. For 2008 and later models, remove the lower radiator splash shield and remove the accumulator/drier bolt. Install the accumulator/drier in the reverse order of removal. The high pressure cut-off switch should be discharged at a service department or repair facility. Unplug the switch electrical connector and unscrew the switch. Install the switch in the reverse order of removal. The low pressure cycling switch should be disconnected and bridged for 2007 and earlier models. Unscrew the low pressure switch and install it in the reverse order of removal. The pressure relief valve should be discharged and recovered at a service department or repair facility. Remove the pressure relief valve from the air conditioning compressor and install it in the reverse order of removal.
