Q:
How do you remove the steering column on Ford Taurus? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the steering column, start by parking the vehicle with the wheels pointing straight ahead and disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Then, remove the steering wheel and tape the airbag clockspring to prevent damage. Next, remove the steering column covers and the lower shroud if applicable. Disconnect the steering column intermediate shaft and electrical connectors from all components on the steering column. Detach the wire harness from the column and remove the four steering column mounting fasteners. Lower the column and pull it to the rear, ensuring nothing is still connected, and then remove the column. To install the steering column, guide it into position and engage the intermediate shaft U-joint with the bottom of the steering shaft. Install and tighten the steering column mounting fasteners and the intermediate shaft pinch bolt. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of the removal process.
