Disconnect both cables from the battery terminals, starting with the negative cable first. Remove the battery heat shield if equipped. Locate and remove the battery hold-down clamp. Lift out the battery using special straps or clamps. Installation is the reverse of removal. Clean the battery cables and posts if needed.

To avoid dead battery situations, maintenance of the battery is very important. Before servicing, turn off accessories and the engine then disconnect the negative battery terminal cable. No electrolyte checks or water addition is necessary for sealed batteries. However, electrolyte levels should be checked and low levels topped up with distilled water in the case of maintenance batteries. Examine for corrosion and external damage. Minimize corrosion by cleaning cables then applying petroleum jelly or grease on them. The battery carrier should be checked while tightening the hold-down clamp bolt. The cloth should cover holes while cell caps are removed for charging. Charger leads must be connected correctly as well as monitoring of the battery during charging taking place. Trickle charge overnight if using a trickle charger. Use a hydrometer or voltmeter to check the state of charge.
