Check the upper radiator hose as the car is operating when its temperature is normal. Feel for a howling sound and rock the water pump pulley to see if shaft wear exists. Bring the number one cylinder to top dead center, then open up the timing belt cover and remove it along with the tensioner assembly, timing belt rear stud, camshaft sprocket, and timing belt. Release clamps, take hoses off from water pump, remove bolts of this pump making note where they were. Clean threads and holes in the block, compare the new pump with old one, wipe away old gasket material, and clean mating surfaces. Use RTV sealant on both sides of the new gasket; put it on the water pump and attach them all together with the engine. Reinstall a timing cover stud, reconnect a heater return tube and water inlet pipe, and install a camshaft sprocket, timing belt, and everything that was taken off earlier.
