Before starting, explore all options to prevent leakage or sticky operation that may warrant an overhaul. The availability of new wheel cylinders has made the job simpler. If rebuilding is selected, make sure a rebuild kit is available. It is important to always rebuild both wheel cylinders at the same time. Raise the rear part of the vehicle and support it securely to remove the cylinder. Take off the
Brake Shoe assembly and clean around the cylinder. Disconnect it without pulling away the
Brake Line. After removing it from its mounting bolts, detach the cylinder from its position. Always plug your brake line immediately after taking out your cylinder. To overhaul a wheel cylinder, remove bleeder screws, cups, pistons, boots and spring assembly. Clean up any excess fluid with compressed air after cleaning out the cylinder with either brake fluid or cleaner. Check for corrosion or score marks in them.
