For 1996 cars and older, you must first remove and detach two components from your car's door. While working inside the vehicle, disconnect the control lever from your car's instrument panel or door using your hands. Then, attach a string or thin wire to the end of the control cable, and take off any holding clips. After you take out the door panels and water-shield, start by detaching screws holding the mirror in place. Pull the control cable out of the door, remembering that some models allow direct access to the mirror sleepers outside. Pull the control wire into place from inside the vehicle, connect it to the mirror's endpoint, put on the mirror and fix the screws, and then join the connection between the wire and the door or instrument panel. To install electric side mirrors, first cut the electrical power to the car, pull out the gripping wire on the negative battery terminal, lift the access cover off the mirror base, take off the nuts holding the mirror to the door, free the mirror from the doorframe, and unplug the electrical cord, reversing these steps when putting the mirror back on.
