To perform this procedure, you will need to have a fuel pump and sending unit assembly. The tool can be purchased in almost any auto parts store or it can be installed about ten inches behind the fuel filter on some models. In case the tank is not empty, it is advisable to siphon off any residual fuel before proceeding. Thus, first, relieve the fuel pressure and disconnect the battery then raise the vehicle securely using jack stands. Next, remove the
Fuel Tank, disconnect the fuel feed and return lines from the fuel pump module then unscrew the lock ring or release mounting bolts or plastic retaining ring according to your model type. Lift out of the tank the fuel pump/sending unit assembly, inspect if necessary an O-ring at the top of opening in the tank, and replace it. Remove bolt securing band clamp for mounting of fuel pump and lower hose clamp for electrical connector as well as strainer which requires cleaning or replacement. Wipe clean surfaces, lubricate new seal ring, install O-ring onto the groove on suction adapter's bottom surface, and guide assembly into the tank.
