This procedure applies only to 1999 through 2004 models with conventional cable-operated throttle bodies. First, verify that the throttle linkage operates smoothly. Remove the air intake duct from the throttle body and check for carbon and residue build-up; if dirty, clean it with aerosol carburetor cleaner and a toothbrush, ensuring the cleaner is safe for oxygen sensor systems and catalytic converters. With the engine off, use the cleaner, a toothbrush, and a rag to clean the throttle body, opening the throttle plate to clean behind it. Avoid cleaning the throttle position sensor or Idle Air Control valve with solvent. Next, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, remove the air filter housing, and detach the electrical connectors for the throttle position sensor and Idle Air Control valve. Disconnect the
Accelerator Cable and the cruise control cable, if equipped, from the throttle body. Remove the throttle body mounting nuts and discard the throttle body gasket. For installation, clean the gasket mating surfaces, taking care not to damage them or allow debris to enter the manifold. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring the throttle body mounting nuts are tightened to the specified torque.
