How to remove and install the instrument cluster on 2008 Ford Focus?

For 2007 and earlier models, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Lower the steering column locking lever and use a thin-bladed screwdriver to release the retaining clips and remove the steering column upper shroud. For 2005 through 2007 models, take off the under-dash panel to access a bolt securing the bottom of the cluster bezel. Next, remove the upper retaining screws from the instrument cluster bezel and unclip it from the dash, ensuring to unclip the upper steering shroud from the instrument cluster bezel. As you withdraw the surround, disconnect the electrical connector from the luggage compartment release switch and trip computer if equipped. Unscrew the four mounting screws from the instrument cluster assembly and disconnect the multi-plug(s) from the rear of the instrument cluster as it is withdrawn from the dash. Installation follows the reverse order of removal. For 2008 and later models, if replacing the instrument cluster with a new one, the procedure must be performed by a dealer or installer with access to a scan tool, as programming of the keys will be erased and cluster configuration information must be uploaded for PCM recognition. Fully lower the steering column, remove the instrument cluster bezel trim panel, then take out the four screws and the instrument cluster while disconnecting the wiring harness. Installation is the reverse of removal.
