- Q:How to remove and install Exhaust Manifold in 4.0L SOHC V6 engine on 2001 Ford Explorer?Posted by Ballew B.A:First of all to dismantle this component, the negative battery cable should be disconnected. Next is the removal of the EGR tube from both the left manifold and the EGR valve together with two hoses that are installed on the differential pressure feedback EGR system. Next, undo the exhaust pipe from the manifold(s) may demand lifting of the car and supporting it on stands in order to have a clear shot at the nuts at the base of the pipe. If there is an Automatic Ride Control, the air suspension switch should be off prior to the raising of the vehicle for any damage to occur. Next to this, withdraw the manifold from the cylinder head whereupon it is necessary to mention that on the left side of manifold there is a nut which must be loosened and removed together with the engine oil dipstick tube. For installation surfaces on the cylinder head, manifold and the exhaust pipe should be cleaned using a scraper and solvent and must be flat ;damaged or warps manifolds may need to be machined. Place the new gasket on the Cylinder head studs and fit the manifold on top of it, tighten the bolts uniformly till the B.T.O. Attach the exhaust pipe to the manifold and fasten the nuts in a sequence with the right force exertion.
