1987 Ford Bronco II Fuel Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install a Mechanical Fuel Pump on a 1987 Ford Bronco II?
A: The first thing that you must do is to separate the filler line and the vent line. This is done by first disconnecting the fuel inlet and outlet lines, removing the pump retaining bolts, and taking out the pump assembly with the gasket. If any problems will arise along these lines, make sure you transfer the fuel line connector fitting. When properly removing all gasket material from around its perimeter, new oil-resistant sealer should be applied to a new one, positioned on top of pump flange, and install retaining bolts. Additionally, fuel pumps should be pressure tested as well as volume tested. A gauge readout showing a pressurized test must be placed with a restrictor at pressure between the carburetor and fuel filler cap area. You may need to replace your pump if it is not within the range of 4.5-6.5 psi.
