Ford Focus Fuel Tank Vent Valve Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: What is the purpose of the roll-over valves and how can they be removed and installed?
A: The roll-over valves are located in rubber grommets in the top of the Fuel Tank, with hoses leading rearwards to the carbon canister. Their purpose is to prevent fuel loss if the vehicle becomes inverted in a crash. To remove the roll-over valve, start by removing the fuel tank and releasing the vent hose from the clip on the top of the tank. Carefully pry the roll-over valve from the rubber grommet and remove it along with the hose. Make sure to check the condition of the rubber grommet and replace it if necessary. For installation, simply reverse the removal steps and apply a light smear of clean engine oil to the rubber grommet to ease the installation process.
