To replace a carburetor inlet fuel filter, first, detach the line leading to the inlet. Carefully unscrew the carburetor inlet filter unit from the carburetor. To reinstall, thread a new filter into the carburetor and tighten it securely.

Fuel filters in carbureted models should be replaced according to the maintenance interval suggestions and when a blockage in the fuel line occurs due to excessive foreign material in the fuel.

Relieve the fuel system pressure and loosen the fuel filler cap. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.

Fuel filters are typically the paper replacement type and can be found either screwing into the carburetor fuel inlet or located in the fuel line. For this task, ensure the engine is cold, having sat for at least 3 hours. Collect the necessary tools, including the appropriate replacement filter, wrenches for flare nut fittings on carburetor-mounted filters, or a screwdriver and pliers for in-line types. Have clean rags ready to catch any spilled fuel. Begin by removing the air cleaner assembly, noting the positions of vacuum hoses if disconnected. Follow the fuel hose from the fuel pump to locate the filter. For carburetor-mounted filters, use a wrench to hold the nut, loosen the fitting, and disconnect the fuel line. Move the line for better access, unscrew the fuel inlet filter nut, and replace the filter, gasket, and spring. Hand-tighten the fuel inlet fitting into the carburetor, then fully tighten using two wrenches. For screw-in type carburetor filters, remove clamps, hose, and filter, then hand-start the new filter and fully tighten. Cut a new fuel hose, position spring clamps, and attach to the filter and steel fuel supply line. For in-line filters, remove clamps and hoses, cut new hoses, install clamps, and attach to the filter, metal supply line, and carburetor inlet fitting. After installation, run the engine, check for leaks, and reinstall the air cleaner assembly, reconnecting hoses to their original positions.

Remove the nuts retaining the filter bracket to the frame rail and remove the filter.

After removing the air cleaner, the fuel line clips at the filter should be loosened.

To replace the filter on vehicles with Motorcraft - 2700 VV carburetor, start by removing the air cleaner. Then, discard the filter hose clips and unscrew the filter from the carburetor, discarding it as well. Install the new filter either by screwing it into the carburetor or using new clips to secure it in the line. Ensure that the directional arrow on the filter is pointing towards the carburetor to indicate fuel flow. Start the engine and check for any fuel leakage. For vehicles with Motorcraft 2 700 VV carburetor, the filter is located inside the fuel inlet union. If the filter is heavily clogged and cannot be cleaned properly, replace it, making sure to correctly reassemble the spring and gasket.

To replace the filter on vehicles with Motorcraft - 2700 VV carburetor, start by removing the air cleaner. Then, discard the filter hose clips and unscrew the filter from the carburetor, discarding it as well. Install the new filter either by screwing it into the carburetor or using new clips to secure it in the line. Ensure that the directional arrow on the filter is pointing towards the carburetor to indicate fuel flow. Start the engine and check for any fuel leakage. For vehicles with Motorcraft 2 700 VV carburetor, the filter is located inside the fuel inlet union. If the filter is heavily clogged and cannot be cleaned properly, replace it, making sure to correctly reassemble the spring and gasket.

Take note of the arrow's direction on the old filter before loosening the clamp or bolts and removing it from the bracket. Install the new filter in the same orientation.

For in-line filters, remove clamps and hoses, cut new hoses, install clamps, and attach to the filter, metal supply line, and carburetor inlet fitting.

After loosening the clips, the fuel lines should be pulled off and the clips should be discarded.
