Q:
How to replace a fuel filter on a Lincoln Navigator? Posted by Customer
A:
This procedure requires a special fuel line disconnect tool which is available at most auto part stores. The fuel filter is mounted under the vehicle on the inside of the left frame rail. On later Expedition/Navigator models, there is a plastic protective cover over the fuel filter; twist the fasteners one-quarter turn counterclockwise to remove the cover. Inspect the hose fittings at both ends of the filter to see if they're clean. If more than a light coating of dust is present, clean the fittings before proceeding. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Removal of the fuel lines from the fuel filter is a two-stage procedure. First, detach the safety clips from the inlet and outlet lines. Second install the special fuel line disconnect tool onto the fuel filter inlet port, then push the disconnect tool into the fuel line coupling until it releases itself from the fuel filter. Repeat this procedure on the outlet port. After both couplings have been released, grasp the fuel hoses, one at a time, and pull them straight off the filter. Be prepared for fuel spillage. After the hoses have been detached, check the clips for damage and distortion. If they were damaged in any way during removal, new ones must be used when the hoses are reattached to the new filter. Use a screwdriver to loosen the fuel filter mounting clamp, while noting the direction the fuel filter is installed. Remove the filter from the bracket and install the new fuel filter in the same direction. Carefully push each hose onto the filter until it's seated against the collar on the fitting, then install the clips. Make sure the clips are securely attached to the hose fittings - if they come off, the hoses could back off the filter and a fire could result! Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

Q:
How to replace a fuel filter on Ford Focus? Posted by Customer
A:
The fuel filter is mounted under the vehicle in front of the fuel tank. Inspect the hose fittings at both ends of the filter to see if they're clean. If more than a light coating of dust is present, clean the fittings before proceeding. Relieve the fuel pressure, then disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. There are two different kinds of quick-connect fittings used on the fuel filter: a "squeeze" type and a "push clip" type. To disengage the "squeeze" type, press the locking tangs together. To disengage the "push clip" type, pull the locking tang out and push the clip through the coupling. Grasp the fuel hoses, one at a time, and pull them straight off the filter. Be prepared for fuel spillage. Use a screwdriver to loosen the clamp, while noting the direction the fuel filter is installed. Remove the filter from the bracket and install the new filter in the same direction. Carefully push each hose onto the filter until it's seated against the collar on the fittings and clicks into place. Make sure the hose fittings are locked into place by trying to pull the fittings off from the filter- if they come off during operation, a fire could result. Reconnect the negative battery cable, then turn the ignition key to the On position and check for fuel leaks.

Q:
How to replace the fuel filter on a Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
A:
The fuel filter is mounted within the left frame rail, with the manufacturer recommending its replacement at 30,000 miles for California vehicles, although this is not required. The fuel filters on later model vehicles may vary slightly in shape and fittings, so it's important to match your new filter with the old one to confirm that it's correct. Before starting, obtain a new fuel filter. Position the front end of the vehicle higher than the rear to prevent fuel siphoning, remove the gas cap, then reinstall it after relieving the fuel system pressure. Inspect the hose fittings at both ends of the filter to see if they're clean, cleaning the fittings before proceeding if necessary. Disconnect the push-connect fittings from the filter. On some models, it may be necessary to remove the fuel filter mounting bracket nut before the filter can be removed. Note which way the arrow on the filter is pointing - the new filter must be installed the same way. Loosen the clamp screw and detach the filter from the bracket. Install the new filter in the bracket with the arrow pointing in the right direction and tighten the clamp screw securely. Carefully connect each fuel line to the filter. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
