Q:
How to diagnose starter problems? Posted by Customer
A:
Before diagnosing starter problems, ensure that the battery is fully charged. If the starter motor does not turn when the switch is operated, check that the shift lever is in Neutral or Park. Verify that the battery is charged and all cables at the battery and starter solenoid terminals are secure. If the starter motor spins but the engine does not turn over, the drive assembly in the starter motor may be slipping and the starter motor will need to be replaced. If the starter motor does not operate but the starter solenoid clicks, the issue may lie with the battery, starter solenoid contacts, or starter motor connections. If the starter solenoid does not click when the ignition switch is actuated, there may be a defect in the starter solenoid, starter relay, ignition switch, Transmission Range sensor (automatic), clutch switch (manual), or a problem in the wiring between these components. To check the starter circuit, remove the push-on connector from the relay and ensure the connection is clean and secure. If the connections are good, test the relay with a jumper wire. If the starter motor operates with the jumper wire, the starter relay is fine, and the problem may be in the ignition switch, Transmission Range sensor, Clutch Pedal Position switch, or the wiring between these components. If the starter motor still does not operate, bridge the two large terminals on the relay with a screwdriver. If the starter works, replace the relay. If it does not work, check for voltage to the relay and inspect the Mega Fuses, main battery fuses, and the cable to the relay. If voltage is present, check for voltage to the starter motor while the ignition key is turned to Start. If voltage is present, replace the starter assembly. If voltage is not present and the relay is fine, trace the wiring between the relay and the starter for an open circuit condition. If the starter motor cranks the engine at a slow speed, ensure the battery is fully charged and all terminal connections are clean and tight. Check the connections at the starter solenoid and battery ground. If the engine is partially seized or has the wrong viscosity oil, it may crank slowly.

Q:
Why should you disconnect electrical power to the suspension system before lifting or towing the 1999 Lincoln Navigator? Posted by Customer
A:
Some models are equipped with self-leveling suspension systems, and failure to disconnect electrical power may result in unexpected shifting or movement of the vehicle, which could cause personal injury.
