Q:
How to remove and install knock sensors in a Lincoln MKX? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For four-cylinder models, the knock sensors are located on the front side of the block, behind the intake manifold. Remove the intake manifold and disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor. Remove the knock sensor bolt and take out the knock sensor. The right-hand knock sensor should be installed with the wire end pointing towards the 6 o'clock position, while the left-side knock sensor should be installed with the wire end pointing towards the 3 o'clock position. For V6 models, the knock sensors are located in the valley between the cylinder heads. All V6 models have two knock sensors that share a single wiring harness, and on 2015 and later models, they must be replaced as a pair. Remove the upper and lower intake manifold, as well as the thermostat housing and coolant tube. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector(s) and remove the knock sensor bolt(s) and knock sensor(s). Installation is the reverse of removal, and the new ECT sensor should be tightened.

Q:
How to remove and install the knock sensor on Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
A:
The knock sensor is located in the valley between the cylinder heads on V6 engines, and on the left side of the block on 2.3L engines, just below the intake manifold. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. On 2.3L engines, disconnect the knock sensor harness connector, then remove the sensor mounting bolt and the sensor. Note that once the knock sensor is removed, it cannot be reused and a new sensor must be installed. On V6 engines, remove the intake manifold. On early V6 engines, remove the noise shield. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector. The knock sensor connector location varies with the model year and date of manufacture. On some models, the knock sensor connector is located on the left end of the firewall, but on other models, the connector is located in the valley between the cylinder heads, closer to the knock sensor. Remove the knock sensor retaining bolt and remove the knock sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that the knock sensor retaining bolt is tightened securely.
