Lincoln 4L3Z-1104-AB Hub Assembly - Wheel

On 2WD models, the hub and wheel bearing is integrated with the front brake disc as a single assembly. At the time of writing, if the hub or wheel bearing is defective or worn, the entire assembly must be replaced. To begin, apply the parking brake and loosen the wheel lug nuts and the spindle nut (2WD) or the driveaxle/hub nut (4WD). Then, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands before removing the wheel. Next, remove the brake caliper and brake disc, as well as the wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle. On 4WD models, remove the hub mounting bolts from the back of the steering knuckle. If working on a 4WD model, remove the driveaxle/hub nut and push the driveaxle through the hub splines as the hub and bearing assembly is removed. If the driveaxle sticks in the hub, use a puller to push it out. Be cautious not to overextend the inner CV joint and support the outer end of the driveaxle with a length of wire or rope. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten the hub mounting bolts (4WD), lubricate the inside of the bearing race when installing the brake disc on 2WD models if necessary, and tighten the brake caliper mounting bracket bolts, caliper mounting bolts, wheel speed sensor bolt, spindle nut (2WD models), and driveaxle/hub nut (4WD models). Finally, tighten the wheel lug nuts.
