To remove the Timing Cover, begin by performing all water pump removal steps up to the actual removal of the pump. Drain the engine oil, remove the oil filter, disconnect and plug the fuel inlet hose at the fuel pump, and remove the crankshaft vibration damper. On the 7.5L (460 cid) engine, slide off the sleeve from the crankshaft and remove the remaining Timing Cover-to-block bolts. Unbolt and remove all accessory brackets attached to the Timing Cover. From underneath the vehicle, remove the oil pan-to-Timing Cover bolts and cut the oil pan gasket flush with the engine block face using a razor knife. Remove the remaining bolts and gently tap the Timing Cover loose with a soft-face hammer. For installation, remove the circular rubber seal from the front of the oil pan and place a shop rag in the oil pan opening. Clean all surfaces, cut two sections from a new oil pan gasket, and attach them to the oil pan with gasket contact adhesive. Apply ATV sealant to the oil pan-to-block joints and install a new circular rubber seal in the oil pan cutout. Lubricate the timing chain and crankshaft front oil seal lips, apply ATV sealant to the cover gasket, and position it on the engine. Apply ATV sealant to the junction of the oil pan, block, and Timing Cover. Apply pipe sealant with Teflon to the threads and install the bolts, ensuring the gaskets and seals stay in place. Tighten the bolts while aligning the cover with the damper or sleeve, then tighten the cover-to-block bolts. Remove the vibration damper, reinstall the remaining parts in reverse order, add engine oil and coolant, and run the engine while checking for leaks.
