Q:
What should be inspected periodically for damage, loose components, and cracked or worn blade elements on Ford F-150? Posted by Customer
A:
The windshield wiper and blade assembly should be inspected periodically for damage, loose components and cracked or worn blade elements. Road film can build up on the wiper blades and affect their efficiency, so they should be washed regularly with a mild detergent solution. If the wiper blade elements are cracked, worn or warped, or no longer clean adequately, they should be replaced with new ones. To do this, lift the arm assembly away from the glass for clearance, press on the release lever, then slide the wiper blade assembly out of the hook in the end of the arm. To release the blade holder, push the release lever and pull the wiper blade in the direction of the arrow to separate it from the arm. Attach the new wiper to the arm. Connection can be confirmed by an audible click.

Q:
How to maintain and replace windshield wiper blades on Mercury Grand Marquis? Posted by Customer
A:
Road film can build up on the wiper blades and affect their efficiency, so they should be washed regularly with a mild detergent solution. The windshield wiper and blade assembly should be inspected periodically. Even if you don't use your wipers, the sun and elements will dry out the rubber portions, causing them to crack and break apart. If inspection reveals hardened or cracked rubber, replace the wiper blades. If inspection reveals nothing unusual, wet the windshield, turn the wipers on, allow them to cycle several times, then shut them off. An uneven wiper pattern across the glass or streaks over clean glass indicate that the blades should be replaced. The operation of the wiper mechanism can loosen the fasteners, so they should be checked and tightened, as necessary, at the same time the wiper blades are checked. Cycle the wiper assembly to a position on the windshield where removal of the blade assembly can be performed without difficulty. Turn the ignition key off at the desired position. With the blade assembly resting on the windshield, insert a small screwdriver into the release spring at the center of the blade and push down on the spring. While pressing down with the screwdriver, pull the wiper blade off the wiper arm pin. To install the blade assembly, push it onto the pin until it snaps into place. Be sure that the blade assembly is securely attached to the wiper arm. At one end of the rubber blade element, insert a small screwdriver between the blade and the metal backing strip. Press down and in, then twist the screwdriver clockwise to release the element from the retaining claw. Slide the blade element out of the retaining claws until the element is completely detached from the frame. To install the element, slide the metal backing strip into the retaining claws starting with the second claw from either end. Continue sliding the element up to the element stops, then secure the element by twisting the backing strip into the end claws. Make sure that all the claws are locked onto the metal backing strip before installing the blade on the wiper arm.
