The EGR system consists of the EGR valve, the solenoid valve, and a series of vacuum hoses. The EGR valve is mounted on the exhaust manifold and connected to the throttle housing by a metal pipe. The solenoid valve is located on the firewall and is connected to the EGR valve and brake booster vacuum hose. To remove the solenoid valve, disconnect the vacuum hoses and wiring plug, then unscrew the mounting bolts. The EGR valve can be accessed by removing the air cleaner outlet tube and disconnecting the coolant hose. Disconnect the vacuum hose and loosen the clamp nut on the metal pipe, then unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the valve. The differential pressure sensor, if present, is located next to the solenoid valve on the firewall. Disconnect the vacuum hoses and wiring plug, then unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the sensor. The EGR pipework can be removed by loosening the union nuts and disconnecting the vacuum hoses. To remove the EGR valve supply pipe, remove the EGR valve and separate the joint below it. Remove the engine lifting eye and loosen the EGR pipe clamp bolt. Disconnect the wiring plugs and release the brake booster vacuum pipe connection. Unscrew the bolts securing the pipe flange at the throttle housing and separate the joint. Remove the pipe, noting the routing of other pipes and hoses. Installation is the reverse of removal, using new gaskets and seals where necessary and tightening all bolts to the specified torque.
