- Q:What is the purpose and location of the camshaft position sensor? Posted by Customer
- A:The camshaft position (CMP) sensor determines the position of the cylinder for ignition start-up signals and for sequential fuel injection signals to each cylinder. The camshaft position sensor is mounted near the crankshaft pulley on 7.3L diesel models or on the cylinder head near the camshaft sprocket on gasoline models. On 6.0L and 6.4L diesel models, it is located behind the power steering pump. Make sure the ignition key is in the OFF position. For gasoline models, disconnect the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor, remove the bolt and detach the sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 7.3L diesel models, raise the vehicle and support it on jackstands, remove the bolt and detach the sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal.Posted by FordPartsGiant Specialist
