- A:To replace a tie-rod end, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the wheel. Then, loosen the tie-rod end locknut and mark its position on the threaded portion. Next, loosen the nut from the tie-rod end balljoint stud and separate the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle. Remove the nut and detach the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm, ensuring to hold the ballstud in place if it turns. Unscrew the old tie-rod end and install the new one, aligning it with the marked position. Finally, reverse the removal steps, tightening the new tie-rod end ballstud nut and the locknut securely.
