Ford Mustang Rack and Pinion Boot Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to replace a steering gear boot?
A: Raise the vehicle and remove the wheel and tie-rod end. Remove the rack and pinion boot clamps with pliers and slide off the boot. Note the position of any vents for replacement. Wrap the inner tie rod with tape to protect it, then slide on the new boot and install new clamps. Remove the tape, reinstall the tie-rod end and wheel. Lower the vehicle, tighten the lug nuts and check the front wheel alignment.
